The kiln has not been empty, even when I have been quiet for a while. I am still working with dipping plaster positives in wax and building up forms layer by layer. This came out last week. It is only the size of a hand, but I have ready to go in the heat, a bigger one.

More good news came today. I finally have an opportunity to show some of my work here in Christchurch, New Zealand. COCA gallery is showing glass from Canterbury Glass artists in February and I will be bringing back some pieces from Denmark. Just as exciting as exhibiting my glass, is the chance to meet colleagues from here and see what they do.

Pinch bowl. Making a functional production line in cast glass is a bit challenging, particular making it cost realistic against time spent, but I enjoy the design aspect of it and setting a table with hand crafted pieces is a joy.
They are 9 cm long and I am working on a larger, but low version now.

After yesterday, I need to remember that sometimes it does work. This was a commissioned piece as a wedding present and the budget made me work in a smaller scale than before. It took quite some time to adjust to size, these forms seem to grow big, but I was very pleased in the end. It is about 20 cm long and 8 cm heigh.

And then the bad news. This one, I was hoping to submit to an exhibition, but two days out of the kiln it has developed a long crack. Maybe bad annealing, maybe the colours are not compatible, I don't know, but this is 6 kg of glass gone as it was all ready a reuse of glass from another piece with crack building tendencies and I am leaning towards the later explanation.

The good news first. I am very excited that this worked. I have dipped this plaster block in wax and slowly built up layers, making sure the plaster is wet, so the wax will separate from it after. A bit like hand dipping candles. I can make really pretty patterns with the layering edges. Then I use a normal lost wax technique, but this was my first attempt at it. Wont be the last..
